ROBOTS IN MEDICINE & HEALTH CARE

ROBOTS IN MEDICINE & HEALTH CARE

Hello every one today I am here with blog on Robots which have become the indispensable part of our new normal life.

Robots can be defined as the machines  that can be programmed to form multiple task with high speed , precision and expertise to help the human being .The term robot derived from Czech word ‘robota’ that meant forced labour.

Starting from the first robot invented  by George Davlon named ‘Unimate’ now no field is untouched of robotics  whether it be educative robots, military robots, banking or industry.

Hotel industry are now preferring Robots to serve food in hotels as they can work at faster pace and efficiently.

Now coming towards role of robots in medicine and health care. Robots have replaced the nurses, assisting high end surgery, disinfecting the operation theatres. Robots have been proved as a boon in the medical and health care.

Because of the hectic schedule 24*7 work schedule nurses and medical professionals being seen tired and fed up and stressed  of their daily work schedule. Quality of work is  being affected by this. Robots are helping them to complete the task in faster and efficient manner to save their energy and caliber for the tasks which really require the human empathy to help the patient.

Following are the Robots which are altering the scenario of health care and medicine in hospital:

·       McKesson Robot Rx: It is a automated robotic system dispensing medicine to patient replacing Pharmacist

·       Carriers as the the name suggest do the task of carrying stuff.

·       Da Vinci Surgical Robot performs high end complex surgery like prostectomy, cardiac repair & gyanaecological procedures.

·       Vi Rob Miniature Robot having multiple function can crawl inside body and locate tumor and can treat .

·       Mr.Gower  patrol hospital as nurse and staff member can navigate elevator stairs.

·       IV Robots taking part in mixing and dispensing fluids and injections in Chemotherapy.

As everything comes with its own pros and cons same is here with the robotics though these can do efficiently what ever is programmed but still these are not able to decide their own in emergency condition while humans are able to take prompt decision in such situation.

It is just becoming a threat to employment of humans if industry can work with 10 robots instead of 50 workers industry would prefer to take robots.

But still we can’t deny their increasing role in every field.

Future prospectives are very high with robots  by introducing features like empathy touch recognition being very helpful for the patients or people do not have any one to take care, console and make feel good. In western culture it’s a big issue for the old people who don’t have any body to take care. In Indian culture we are still blessed with culture and values that make us remained connected to our roots and so to the respect and compassion for elderly aged people of the family.

Concluding with this have a safe and healthy life and yes do possess empathy that  makes us a better person :).

Botox :Toxin derived elixir

                             Botox: Toxin derived elixir

Hello every one hope all are healthy and safe and doing very well in their lives. Today  I am here with a new topic. We hear so much these days whether it be medical field or cosmetology every one talks about botox injection. What actually it is and what is making it's use common in Medical field.

Botox refers to the neurotoxin produced by bacteria Clostridium Botulinum which is found in natural environment, soil, lakes, gills of fish even in human intestine but produce toxin only in vegetative stage. It comes under the most poisonous substance known to human. This can cause life threatening botulism that may lead to respiratory failure and death if left untreated.

We can assume the toxicity profile by the estimation of scientist that 1gm can kill 1million people. Despite this botox is being successfully used in field of medicine as well as cosmetology. If injected in very minute quantity it has property of inhibiting release of neurotransmitter Acetylcholine which result in contraction and muscle movement thus prevent involuntary movement.

It’s injection is considered as the most preferred non surgical cosmetic procedure. Celebrities undergo botox therapy to prevent wrinkles and lines of ageing as well as fillers for figure rejuvenation what makes them forever young looking. Botox injection proved to be useful in the treatment of following conditions:

  1. • Migraine
  2. • Strabismus
  3. • Blepharospasm
  4. • Muscle spasm such as cervical dystonia & torticollis
  5. • Overactive bladder
  6. • Severe underarm sweating and drooling (excessive salivation)

In this way botox had proved to be indispensable in its class having numerous applications and many more to come as found useful in oral and maxillofacial surgery too. Thus we can call it as Elixir made of toxin.

But as nothing in allopathy comes without adverse effects it does have large number of side effects like nausea ,vomiting, swelling at site of injection, difficulty in chewing, swallowing and in severe cases muscles atrophy too. Its not recommendable for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.

Its use is only advisable under expert medical supervision.

So just stay safe and healthy and learn something new daily :)

SJOGREN'S SYNDROME

SJOGREN'S SYNDROME

Eyes are the most important sense Organs. Eyes make us capable to enjoy the beauty of this beautiful world. So it's our responsibility to take care of our Eyes.

One such syndrome related to the eyes is Sjogren's Syndrome.

Sjogren’s pronounced as ‘SHOW Grins‘ syndrome is an autoimmune disease. Autoimmune disease refers to disorder in our own immune system doesn’t recognize our own body tissue and endogenous compound and treat it as an antigen and obviously if it is treating like antigen, it will try to kill or neutralize it and eliminate it from the body .This  is very unfortunate with the autoimmune disease and make them difficult and almost impossible to treat. That is the reason Clinicians can just provide symptomatic relief in most of the autoimmune disorders and can’t provide the cure or complete treatment.

Sjogren’s syndrome was named after the Swedish physician Dr.Henrik Sjogren who first identified this disease in 1933. Major symptoms involve dryness of the eyes and mouth. It also leads to dryness of other organs like the liver, kidney, etc. Along with it patients feel fatigued and exhausted leading to permanent impairment and affect their quality of life. Quality of life is an individual’s perception of life consisting of four domains: physical, social, mental, and economic. As it leads to tooth decay, difficulty in speaking, swallowing, persistent dry cough, etc. If symptoms of Sjogren’s syndrome appear along with another Autoimmune

disease like SLE(Systemic Lupus Erythematosus) or Rheumatoid Arthritis. It is known as secondary Sjogren’s Syndrome.

Etiology of Sjogren’s Syndrome is still a mystery for scientists that why only a few people develop this syndrome. It has been postulated to be associated with genetics like if a person develops this syndrome chances of his or her relative getting the syndrome are enhanced. Research finding also adds that to develop such syndrome immune system also need to be activated or stimulated by some bacterial or viral infection. Studies indicated that females are more prone to it compared to males.
Treatment aims at providing relief from the symptoms :
1.Dry eye: Ocular lubricants eye drops, Autologous serum for severe cases
2.Dry Mouth: Secretagogues like Pilocarpine increase saliva
3.Dry throat: Medication which increases moisture like sorbitol etc
4.Joint Pain: NSAID’s (Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs)& DMARD(Disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs) etc.
